More Pictures


From 1930 to 1939, the cotton towns of Lancashire elected a 'cotton queen', a young milkworker chosen to represent their mill and the local area for the following 12 months. The cotton queen would work during the week and live the high life at the weekends. This photo is of 1933 Salford Cotton Queen Alice Kirkham.
